The Hover and Press Method

The Hover and Press Method is a stencil placement technique used to position stencil images in locations where the necessary view is obscured by stencil borders.

1. On a a clean surface, place the stencil you are using sticky side up.

2. After cleaning the glass, turn over the piece so the surface to be etched is face down.

3. Hold the piece inverted over the surface glass item so it is hovering just above the sticky surface of the stencil.

4. Maneuver the glass in the air until the design on the stencil below is in the desired location you want on the glass.

5. Gently lower the glass down onto the stencil and press down firmly.

6. Turn the glass over. Rub down the stencil to secure it to the glass and smooth any air bubbles.

7. Continue the regular etching process from here.
