Craft punches are a great way to cut out vinyl masking. They come in all kinds of shapes and sizes, however we did find some designs work better than others. Choose punches with larger, less intricate designs. The punch we chose had a very interesting design, yet was simple enough to be able to pass thru the punches cutter.
#15-0200 Armour Etch Cream
#31-0401 Beige vinyl masking
#81-2171 Sponge Brushes
#08-9999 Rubber gloves
#08-9415 Masking tape
#08-9777 Scissors
#15-0315 Glass cleaner
#61-3340 Dazzle-Tac glue
Clear square 8 inch or 10 inch bud vase
Chrysanthemum border punch
4- 8mm Rhinestones
Paper towels
Old towel
Scrap paper,
Burnisher or old credit card
1. Unroll the vinyl masking and cut out a strip 2 x 12 inches long. The strip will be longer than you need so it can be trimmed and the flowers can be centered down the side of the vase.
2. Punch along entire length of the strip with the border craft punch
3. Lay a towel down on your work surface to keep the vase from sliding around the table while your working on it. Turn it horizontally with the top opening to your left.
5. Take the punched strip of vinyl and determine where the strip will start and end. Try to fit all four flowers on the strip, but if they do not all fit, center it so the flowers on the ends are equally going off the ends of the vase.
7. Clean the face of the vase with glass cleaner.
8. Peel off the backing and lay the strip down on the glass with the straight edge of the strip lining up with the edge of the vase all the way down its length. Trim any overhang on the ends to within 1/4 inch of the edge and wrap over the edge.
10. Place a piece of scrap paper over the stencil and rub over the entire face of the vase with the burnisher. The paper will protect the tools from lifting or tearing the stencil while you are trying to rub it down
11. Remove the paper and cover the sides of the vase with masking tape, overlapping the edge with the straight side of the stencil and on the open side of the face, lay the masking tape on the very edge as straight as you can. The neater the tape, the prettier the edge when it is frosted
12. Put on your rubber gloves. Take the sponge brush and dip it in the Etch Cream. The brush should be full, but not dripping. PAT the cream onto the exposed face of the vase until it is covered with 1/4 inch of cream. Pat straight up and down, using the flat side of the sponge. DO NOT BRUSH STROKE like your painting. This will give a streaky finish. Wait 5 minutes
13. Turn the vase upside down (so no water gets inside) and rinse off all the etch cream under running water until the cream is no longer visible. Peel off all the vinyl and tape, then rinse again. Dry the glass well.
14. Squeeze a small dot of Dazzle-Tac glue in the center of each flower. Apply a rhinestone over the glue and gently push down until the glue starts to show around the edge of the stone. Let dry
