Paper, pencil and ruler

General Directions:

1. Wash votive with hot, soapy dish detergent, rinse and dry well.

2. Gently peel the two tiered bracket stencil from the carrier sheet and apply to the middle of the votive, leaving enough room for the bow above it..

3. Write the words on paper you wish to put on each line of the stencil, one over the other. Count the letters in each word and draw a line down the middle of the word, dividing each word in half. This will help you center each word in the stencil box when you apply the letters. If there is an odd number of letters in the word, the middle letter will be placed directly on the dividing line of the stencil.

4. Measure the length of the stencil boxes and make a vertical pencil line down the middle. This will match up with the dividing lines you made of your words.

5. To apply the letters, you will be applying them from the center on out. Starting with the first letter to the right of the dividing line (or if there is an odd number of letters, place it ON the line), lift the letter off the carrier sheet with tweezers and apply it in the first box to the right of the dividing line on your stencil. Place the rest of the letters that go to the right tucking the in close together but not touching. Try to space the letters as evenly as possible.

6. Next you will be applying letters from the center out to the left. Place the first letter to the left of the dividing line, then apply the rest of the letters that go to the left. This will ensure that your word will be centered in the box. Example: for the word Nicole, first letter you apply to the right of the dividing line will be O, then L, etc. Next you will be working backward to the left, so next you apply the C, then the I and N last

7. After you have all the letters in the box, check that they are evenly spaced and level with each other, make any adjustments necessary. If there is too much space left over or not enough space, you may have to re-adjust the letters in the box. You may find that a toothpick will help with adjusting the letters if they are a bit crooked.

8. Center the bow stencil over the top of the bracket. Overlap the bottom edge of the bow stencil over the top edge of the bracket stencil so there is no gap between the two stencils. This way, you will not need to place any tape between the two stencils.

9. Cut two 1 inch squares from the blank stencil material. Peel the squares from the backer sheet and stick them down to wax paper. Punch the centers of each square with the holly and berries punch. Peel the punched stencils from the wax paper and apply to either side of the bow stencil, overlapping the edges wherever they meet the other stencils. If some points of the punch did not punch all the way through, cut it the rest of the way through with a swivel or a craft knife.

10. Once you have all of the stencils in place, cover all exposed areas of the glass around the stencils with masking tape, overlapping all the edges. Entire face of votive should be protected with tape.

11. Put on the gloves. PAT the Armour Etch glass etching cream on the stencils with the brush. Do not brush it on like you are painting. Patting the cream on will avoid streaking and give you a brighter etching.View the directions and How To video HERE

12. Wait 5 minutes. Holding the votive upside down (so no water can go inside during rinsing), rinse off all the Etch cream. Remove tape and stencil and rinse again. Pat dry

13. Apply the word TO just above the left side of the upper bracket using the small alphabet. Repeat with the word FROM just above the lower bracket. Repeat steps 17 thru 20
